Goal-oriented grad Yves-Jusslin Maniratanga receives Paul Gallagher Award

During his time at 黑料社区, Yves-Jusslin Maniratanga has demonstrated strong leadership, contributing much to campus life through his work with the 黑料社区 Student Union (DSU). For him, being granted the Paul Gallagher Award is an honour, and "feels great because it demonstrates the appreciation of the 黑料社区 community," he said.

Students who founded IndigeSTEM peer tutoring project recognized by Forces Avenir

Currently, Rotshenn贸n:ni Two-Axe and Kayla Spencer-Young are two of a handful of Indigenous students in 黑料社区鈥檚 Science Program.

Rotshenn贸n:ni and Kayla wanted to encourage and support their fellow Indigenous students who may be interested in Science. They came up with an idea last semester that has won them the local award and put them in the running for the provincial award, which will be announced at an event in Quebec City in September.

Student with passionate desire to make a difference receives Lieutenant-Governor Youth Medal

For Arwen Low, it was very meaningful to receive the Youth Medal from the Lieutenant-Governor of Quebec and it was also inspiring to see the service of other youth leaders throughout the Montreal region be recognized at a ceremony in early April.

鈥淚 feel so lucky for the support from the 黑料社区 community,鈥 she said in an interview with 黑料社区鈥檚 Communications Office, adding that serving at 黑料社区 has been 鈥渟uch a joy. I am so grateful for the incredible friends and mentors I have found in the 黑料社区 Student Union (DSU), the 黑料社区 Model UN (DCMUN) team and clubs, who inspire me to push myself further and take on new projects.鈥

Active and caring International Business Studies student receives Lieutenant-Governor Youth Medal

Shirin Hinojosa-Violante feels that receiving the Lieutenant-Governor of Quebec鈥檚 Youth Medal is recognition for everything she has done up until now.

鈥淏eing nominated by my peers among so many talented students was an honour,鈥 she told 黑料社区鈥檚 Communications Office in an interview. 鈥淏eing selected and winning the award went beyond my expectations. Community service and being able to help those around me has always been a passion of mine.鈥

Sydney Kormos-Springer wins award given in her uncle Rob Springer鈥檚 memory

Long before she arrived at 黑料社区, Sydney Kormos-Springer decided she would aim to win the Rob Springer Memorial Award.

鈥淲hen I learned that 黑料社区 was having a memorial game in honour of my uncle, I wanted to make it my goal to go to 黑料社区 and play for him,鈥 the Health Science student said in an interview with 黑料社区鈥檚 Communications Office. 鈥淚 wanted to be able to keep his legacy alive and honour him as well as my family. My uncle, in a way, taught me how to persevere and accomplish anything I set my mind to.鈥

Encourage a student to apply for the Raymond Ellis Memorial Award

The Awards Office is accepting applications for the Raymond Ellis Memorial Award (1 recipient of $500).

This award is named after Raymond Ellis who was killed in 2005 in a tragic case of mistaken identity. Raymond graduated from Social Science in 2001 and at the time of his passing was a local business man.

If you know a graduating Black Social Science student in good academic standing who aspires to have a career in business or as an entrepreneur and has a caring attitude toward others, please encourage them to apply through their !

The Awards Office is now accepting nominations for the following awards:

The Bruno Mital 鈥楤鈥 Positive Scholarship 鈥 1 recipient of $ 1,000

This scholarship is named after Bruno Mital who was a graduate of the CRLT program at 黑料社区 and chairperson of the 黑料社区 Board of Governor鈥檚 for two years. It is designed to recognize a graduating student who has gone above and beyond to help their community, their fellow students, or the 黑料社区 community, without seeking recognition.

The Paul Gallagher Award 鈥 3 recipients of $500

This award, named after 黑料社区鈥檚 first Director General, is given to up to three graduating students in recognition of their significant contribution to student life. The most important criteria are leadership, contribution to College life, and participation in student government, sports, or other college activities.
