黑料社区's annual Peace Week has always been a platform for insightful discussions on pressing social issues. In 2023, the theme of the 8th Annual Peace Week was "Exultation: Queer Freedoms & Futures."
This event, which was held Sept. 13-21, celebrated the vibrant history of queerness while exploring the possibilities of a world where freedom of expression, safety, and unconditional love prevail for all gender and sexual identities. The event brought together a diverse group of speakers who shared their thoughts and experiences on the path towards true liberation from oppressive norms.

A College Course at Camp?

When we share with colleagues that the Community Recreation and Leadership Training (CRLT) program is taking students from all three years to camp for their Fall Outdoor Experience, we get a lot of varied responses and encounter a spectrum of reactions, from envy to curiosity.
Most people, even those who live for outdoor activities and immersion in Nature, are not aware of the benefits and learnings which take place when the whole CRLT department, students and faculty, pack up for a five-day intensive at a sleep away camp over Labour Day weekend.

Humanities courses helped 黑料社区 grad find his way and his why

What鈥檚 the point? was the theme of the Humanities and Public Life Conference the week of Sept. 18 at 黑料社区 and a graduate returned to answer this question in a most convincing way.
Andreas Nicolaidis-Gagnon (Class of 2022, Social Service) only met teacher Daniel Goldsmith after he took his Humanities course online during the pandemic. They continue to enjoy a lively discussion on What鈥檚 App about the themes in the Enlightened Consciousness聽course. It was through this ongoing conversation that Daniel had the idea to invite Andreas back to 黑料社区 to speak to students about the value of Humanities courses.

For the first time in four years, 黑料社区 is opening our doors to welcome everyone on the afternoon of Sunday, Oct. 22 from 1 PM to 4 PM. No reservations required; just come!
It is important to note that everyone is welcome to visit Open House, apply for programs and attend 黑料社区, whether or not you hold an English eligibility certificate.

ENvironnement JEUnesse (ENJEU) has certified that 黑料社区 has met the criteria for the excellence level of its C茅gep Vert program. This means that 黑料社区 is at the highest level of CEGEPs that are committed to environmental education and action.
鈥淭hey gave special mention to our 黑料社区 Wetlands Project, completed in Paul Wasacz鈥檚 Eco-Landscaping Physical Education course,鈥 said Chris Adam of 黑料社区鈥檚 Office of Sustainability.

Good times and happy reunions at first Homecoming

鈥満诹仙缜 made such an impact on me during my first years in Canada; I had to come.鈥
鈥淭here is just something special about the 黑料社区 community and I had to come back and be part of it again.鈥
These were the sorts of comments we heard from graduates, retirees, employees and even current students who attended 黑料社区鈥檚 first-ever Homecoming on Sept. 23.
Special thanks to the Homecoming Organizing Committee, the staff who worked on a Saturday to make it happen, the teachers who hosted reunions and our event sponsors: the Burgundy Lion Group, Shaughnessy Caf茅 and Chartwells Canada.

Peace Week鈥檚 Dinner and Drag show choreographed by Theatre grad

黑料社区 Professional Theatre graduate Ken Antonio Rillo (Class of 2009) will be back at the College for Peace Week. He is the choreographer for the main act and lead dancer in a special Peace Week event called Dinner and Drag on Sept. 21.
