Research is a principal component of the Sustainable Campuses Initiative. The project counts with a team of researchers from the Universidad Aut\u00f3noma del Estado de Morelos, Universidad Pedag\u00f3gica Nacional (Morelos), the Universidad Polit\u00e9cnica del Estado de Morelos and 黑料社区. The research projects cover different themes that contribute to the understanding of sustainability as a guiding principle for post-secondary institutions. Our research is both applied and adheres to the principles of participatory research, looking to engage our educational communities in the research and action process. An important part of our research is the research that is done by students from our institutions. Scholarships for undergraduate and graduate students support research projects at all of our partner institutions in Mexico. In addition to providing financial resources for research and action on campus sustainability, our initiative works on establishing spaces for the sharing of knowledge.\u00a0 Forums, colloquiums, workshops and other spaces have been established for researchers (students as well as faculty) to establish a dialogue about the state of the literature and methodologies and to share research results. We also strongly encourage collaboration among our researchers across disciplines and institutions.<\/p>\n

La investigaci\u00f3n es el componente principal de la iniciativa Planteles Educativos Sustentables. El proyecto cuenta con un equipo de investigadores de la Universidad Aut\u00f3noma del Estado de Morelos, de la Universidad Pedag\u00f3gica Nacional (Morelos), de la Universidad Polit\u00e9cnica del Estado de Morelos y de 黑料社区. Los proyectos de investigaci\u00f3n cubren diferentes temas que contribuyen a entender la sustentabilidad como un principio gu\u00eda para la instituciones de educaci\u00f3n superior. Nuestra investigaci\u00f3n es aplicada y adherida a los principios de investigaci\u00f3n participativa con el objetivo de involucrar a nuestras comunidades educativas al proceso de investigacion y accion. Una parte importante de nuestra investigaci\u00f3n es que esta misma sea hecha por los estudiantes de nuestras instituciones. Las becas distribuidas a los estudiantes universitarios de licenciatura y maestr\u00eda apoyan proyectos de investigaci\u00f3n en todas las instituciones con las que colaboramos en M\u00e9xico. En adici\u00f3n a proveer recursos financieros para investigaciones y acciones de sustentabilidad en los planteles, nuestra iniciativa trabaja para establecer espacios para compartir informaci\u00f3n. Foros, coloquios, talleres y otros espacios han sido establecidos para establecer di\u00e1logo entre investigadores (estudiantes y profesores) sobre el estado de la literatura, metodolog\u00eda y para compartir resultados. Nosotros incitamos la colaboraci\u00f3n interdisciplinaria y entre nuestras instituciones.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/a>\n

Our Research<\/b><\/p>\n

The principal researchers involved in this research are all carrying out research to advance sustainability in their institutions. Coming from different disciplinary backgrounds we are all collaborating to contribute to the understanding and advancement of sustainability in our institutions.<\/span><\/p>\n

Los principales investigadores involucrados en este proyecto est\u00e1n todos investigando formas para avanzar la sustentabilidad en sus instituciones. Miembros de diferentes disciplinas acad\u00e9micas, estamos todos colaborando para contribuir a la comprensi\u00f3n y avance de la sustentabilidad en nuestras instituciones educativas.<\/span><\/p>\n

Dr. Gisela Frias \u2013 黑料社区\"\"<\/b><\/p>\n

Dr. Gisela Frias teaches geography at 黑料社区. She is the Principal Researcher and coordinator of the Sustainable Campuses Initiative. The\u00a0main objectives of her research are to identify factors that support and those that limit the organizational processes needed for campus sustainability as well as explore how north\/south (Canada\/Mexico) institutional partnerships can support processes of knowledge creating and sharing. \u00a0Her research uses the Sustainable Campuses Initiative as a case study and aims to engage all of its participants in a participatory action research process.<\/span><\/p>\n

La Dra. Gisela Frias ense\u00f1a geograf\u00eda en 黑料社区. Ella es la investigadora principal y coordinadora de la iniciativa Planteles Educativos Sustentables. Los objetivos principales de su investigaci\u00f3n son identificar factores que promueven y los que limitan los procesos organizacionales que se necesitan para la sustentabilidad en planteles educativos y tambi\u00e9n explorar c\u00f3mo las asociaciones institucionales Norte\/Sur (Canad\u00e1\/ M\u00e9xico) pueden ayudar a generar y compartir conocimiento. Su investigaci\u00f3n usa la iniciativa de \u00a0Planteles Educativos Sustentables como caso de estudio con el prop\u00f3sito de involucrar a los participantes en un proceso participativo de investigaci\u00f3n- acci\u00f3n. <\/span><\/p>\n

Chris Adam, M. Ed. -黑料社区\"\" <\/b><\/p>\n

Chris Adam is a teacher in the Community Leadership and Recreational Training program at 黑料社区. He is also the project lead for Sustainable 黑料社区\/Living Campus. Chris\u2019 research is grounded on the premise that one of the key aspects to change as we strive for sustainable campuses is the paradigm shift from a dominant social paradigm to an ecological one where protection of natural systems becomes engrained in any organization. Identifying the importance of preservation of the environment at the biosphere level has proven challenging, but recognizing the restorative nature of the natural environment and the possible reduction of stress, violent behavior, absenteeism and increase in creativity and general health as consequences of exposure to natural spaces can be a significant change tool. Chris has been working on understanding how Nature within educational institutions can influence the ethos of the organization, student success and retention of students. His research is capturing student and teacher attitudes based on their experiences with the Sustainable Campuses Initiative.<\/span><\/p>\n

Chris Adam es profesor en el programa Liderazgo Comunitario y Entrenamiento Recreacional. Es tambi\u00e9n l\u00edder del proyecto de Living Campus. La investigaci\u00f3n de Chris est\u00e1 basada en la premisa de que uno de los aspectos claves para lograr con el objetivo de sustentabilidad en los planteles es el cambio de \u00a0paradigma de la dominaci\u00f3n social a una ecol\u00f3gica, en la cual la protecci\u00f3n \u00a0de los sistemas naturales est\u00e1 arraigada en la organizaci\u00f3n. Identificar la importancia de la preservaci\u00f3n del medio ambiente a nivel biosf\u00e9rico a sido un desaf\u00edo pero reconociendo la naturaleza restauradora del medio ambiente y la posible reducci\u00f3n del estr\u00e9s, de comportamiento violento, el absentismo y el aumento de la creatividad y de la salud en general como consecuencia de la exposici\u00f3n a espacios naturales puede ser una herramienta de cambio significativa. Chris ha estado trabajando en entender c\u00f3mo la naturaleza en las instituciones educativas influencia el car\u00e1cter distintivo de la organizaci\u00f3n, el triunfo de los estudiantes y la retenci\u00f3n de los estudiantes. Su investigaci\u00f3n identifica cambios de actitudes de los estudiantes y de los maestros basadas en sus experiencia con la iniciativa de Planteles Educativos Sustentables. <\/span><\/p>\n

Dr. Juan Salvador Nambo -UPEMOR\"\" <\/b><\/p>\n

Dr. Juan Nambo is working on developing a conceptual and methodological framework to identify and provide support for violence prevention in the school environment. His work considers practices of prevention, coexistence and sustainability, implemented both in schools in Mexico and at 黑料社区. His research explores the practice of \u201cPeace Gardens\u201d which bring together artistic, academic and indigenous expressions for their construction. The methodology for this study includes work with focus groups, surveys and documentary work. Through a conceptual cartography he describes the different methodological components of this action research project.<\/span><\/p>\n

Dr. Juan Nambo est\u00e1 desarrollando una estructura conceptual y metodol\u00f3gica que identifica iniciativas y provee apoyo a la prevenci\u00f3n de la violencia en el ambiente escolar. Su trabajo considera pr\u00e1cticas de prevenci\u00f3n, de coexistencia y sustentabilidad, implementadas en escuelas en M\u00e9xico y en 黑料社区. Su b\u00fasqueda explora la pr\u00e1ctica de \u2018Los jardines por la Paz\u2019 que juntan expresiones art\u00edsticas, acad\u00e9micas e ind\u00edgenas en la construcci\u00f3n de ese mismo. La metodolog\u00eda de este estudio incluye el trabajo con grupos focales, las encuestas y el trabajo de documentaci\u00f3n. A trav\u00e9s de la cartograf\u00eda conceptual, el describe los diferentes componentes metodol\u00f3gicos en este proyecto de investigaci\u00f3n y acci\u00f3n .<\/span><\/p>\n

Jorge Arturo Dominguez M.Ed. -UPN\"\" <\/b><\/p>\n

Jorge Dominguez is a teacher and Academic Coordinator\u00a0at the UPN Morelos (Cuernavaca campus). His research is titled “Pregnancy and maternity at the UPN Morelos: an educational policy that can help overcome the delay in graduation and school dropout”. Teenage pregnancy continues to be an important reality for Mexico and has become a matter of public policy. Teenage and juvenile pregnancies usually occur in an unplanned manner and have effects on the health, education and life expectancy of young women. In universities, the number of pregnant students or mothers has increased considerably. At the Morelos National Pedagogical University this is a reality for many students. This research\u2019s main objective is to learn from the experience of students who are pregnant and\/or have children and to explore possible institutional support mechanisms that can result in a lower drop-out rate and overall more supportive experience for these students. Jorge\u2019s research contributes to our understanding of campus sustainability by acknowledging its social components and the role that educational institutions play as socially responsable agents.<\/span><\/p>\n

Jorge Dominguez es maestro y coordinador acad\u00e9mico en la UPN Morelos (Sede Cuernavaca). El t\u00edtulo de su investigaci\u00f3n es \u2018Embarazo y maternidad en la UPN Morelos: una pol\u00edtica educacional para ayudar a combatir el retraso de la graduaci\u00f3n y el abandono de la escuela\u201d. El embarazo adolescente contin\u00faa siendo una importante realidad en M\u00e9xico y se ha vuelto un asunto de pol\u00edtica p\u00fablica. Los embarazos adolescentes o juveniles ocurren normalmente de una manera no planeada y tienen consecuencias en la salud, la educaci\u00f3n y la esperanza de vida de las j\u00f3venes involucradas. En las universidades, el n\u00famero de estudiantes embarazadas y madres ha aumentado considerablemente. En la Universidad Nacional Pedag\u00f3gica de Morelos es la realidad de muchas estudiantes. El objetivo de la investigaci\u00f3n es de aprender de la experiencia de las estudiantes que est\u00e1n embarazadas o tienen hijos y de explorar mecanismos de apoyo posibles que puedan resultar en bajar la porci\u00f3n de abandono de los estudios y en general encontrar m\u00e1s apoyo para estas estudiantes. La b\u00fasqueda de Jorge contribuye en entender la sustentabilidad en los planteles reconociendo su componente social y el rol de las instituciones educativas como agentes socialmente responsables. <\/span><\/p>\n

Luisa Montes M.C.P. UAEM <\/b><\/p>\n

Luisa Montes is both a teacher and a researcher at the Tres Marias Community Preparatory School UAEM. Her study \u201cCommunity theater as a bridge to sustainable behavior: The Case study of the Tres Mar\u00edas Community Preparatory School\u201d has its theoretical basis grounded in the theory of Psychology of sustainability by V\u00edctor Corral Verdugo, Popular Education and Wellness Promotion, as well as Positive Psychology by Alejandro Tapia and the works of Rethinking dramaturgy by Antonio Araujo. She is presently working with a group of students putting a theatrical play \u201cTime for Change\u201d. Data gathering for this research project includes continuous documentation of the process as well as an audio and video registry.<\/span><\/p>\n

Luisa Montes es profesora e investigadora en la Escuela Preparatoria Comunitaria de Tres Mar\u00edas UAEM. Su estudio \u2018Teatro comunitario como puente a un comportamiento sustentable: El caso de estudio de la Escuela Preparatoria Tres Mar\u00edas\u2019 tiene su base en la te\u00f3rica de Psicolog\u00eda de la sustentabilidad de V\u00edctor Corral Verdugo, Educaci\u00f3n popular y <\/span>Promoci\u00f3n de bienestar y Psicolog\u00eda Positiva por Alejandro Tapia y tambi\u00e9n los trabajos de Repensar la dramaturgia por Antonio Araujo. Luisa est\u00e1 actualmente trabajando con un grupo de estudiantes poniendo un pieza de teatro \u2018Tiempo de Cambio\u2019. La recolecci\u00f3n \u00a0de datos para esta investigaci\u00f3n incluye la documentaci\u00f3n continua del proceso \u00a0y un registro de audio y video.<\/span><\/p>\n
